How To Get To The Island

The island is accessible via ferry from Rockland Ferry Services.

  • Getting around the Island is primarily via car but the downtown area near the marina is walkable going to Nebo Lodge, The brewery, and The Landing. 

  • Guests should group together with known parties to share an island car for the entirety of the wedding weekend, due to limited ferry space.

  • As each ferry trip accommodates a max of 10-12 cars.

  • It might best to car pool from home but you can also drive and leave you cars in the lot once you arrive at the ferry service.  

  • If you are leaving your car in Rockland, we recommend that you park in the State Ferry parking lot or in Knight’s Marine lot, located just adjacent to the Ferry Terminal. 
    Both charge $10 per day: you’ll drive up to the gate, grab your ticket, park and pay on your way out.

  • You can also drive, leave your car at either of the above lots and get onto the ferry as a regular walk-on seated passenger. There will be plenty of cars on the island that you’ll be able to hop in.

*We will be providing bus transport for day of wedding.

*Welcome party and Recovery day will require your own transport.

The ferry leaves Rockland for North Haven at 9:30 am, 2:15 pm and 5:15 pm daily and the trip takes about an hour, so bring a roady or two for the ride!
Return trips to Rockland depart North Haven at 7:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 3:45 pm.

ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 30 MINUTES prior to departure time for boarding!

Ferry reservations are required for cars to guarantee a spot, but are not required for walk-on passengers. AFTER reservations these reservation fill (as there are only 4 reservations per ferry) they pull the rest of the cars from the standby line since each trip holds 10-12 cars depending on sizing.

The price is $55.00 for a car + Driver, additional people in the car are $23.00 per person. This is for roundtrip.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND: getting out of your car on the ferry ride and use the stairs in the seated area to enjoy the ride & view from the top seated balcony. You can’t beat it. (also good for those who may get a little seasick)

**IMPORTANT: For Reservations you must book your car exactly 30 days prior in order to guarantee a spot. Via phone 207-596-5400 at 9:30am. Spots fill fast as so call as soon as they open.
Press "1" for Rockland, as this is the departure location.

IF YOU HAVE BOOKED A RESERVATION: When you get to the ferry terminal, you will proceed to the GREEN LANE with the label “NH” at the ferry terminal. ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 30 MINUTES before departure time or you will lose your reserved spot.

If you are unable to reserve a spot and want to go on with your car then you will go to the standby lane. When arriving to the ferry terminal this is the BLUE LANE with label “NH”. It is first come first serve so the closest you are in front of the line the more likely your chances. IT IS RECOMMENDED you get there early and park your car in line. You do not have to sit and wait in your car, you can walk around the downtown for some food and exploring while you wait. NOTE: ARRIVE BACK TO YOUR CAR 30 MINUTES BEFORE DEPARTURE TIME or they will continue with the cars parked behind you.

(We arrived at 7:00am & we were second in line & got on the 9:30am ferry for the same weekend last year. ) In this case, you also can leave your car in line 24 hours before and keep move it up in the morning.

Worst case - if you are unable to get a reservation and unable to make one of the 3 ferries in the standby.. leave your car in the lot with paid parking and hop on as a walk on passenger. Someone will get you from the terminal! (Let us know if this is the case)

CAR RESERVATIONS: When you arrive you will go into the GREEN LANE labeled “NH” for car reservations.

STANDBY: When you arrive you will go into the BLUE LANE labeled “NH” for standby lane.

WALK-ON: Park your car in paid parking and head into the ferry building to purchase your ticket. They will let you know where to stand and wait for boarding.

Make sure it is the ferry to NORTH HAVEN ISLAND, as there are other island ferries.

Departure booking follows the same set of rules as arrivals, in which you would call on either 8/14 or 8/15 depending on your departure day. Via phone 207-596-5400 at 9:30am.
Press “3“ for North Haven Island.

There are only 4 car reservations spots for leaving as well but for ISLAND DEPARTURES ONLY the day before leaving you can call and reserve your standby spot! This is a separate set of instructions - please see below

-At 11am the day before travel, dial 207-596-5400 and press “3” for North Haven, then press ‘2’ for the line number queue.

-After booking this, the DAY OF TRAVEL you must line up your vehicle in the standby parking spot that correlates to the number given to you the day before.

-You MUST have your vehicle in line at:
6:45am-7am for 7:30am ferry
1145am-12pm for 12:30pm ferry
3pm-3:15pm for 3:45pm ferry
